
Legendary soul singer from the 60s Solomon Burke died at the age of 70 on an airplane of all places on his way to a show. Apparently he was still very active right to the end. Many of you probably never heard of Solomon Burke but those regarded him as possibly the best soul singer of his time. Even though many of those whom he influenced became much more popular than he, guys like James Brown and Marvin Gaye. It supposedly bothered him a bit, but not to a great degree.
Solomon Burke also served as a pastor for many years. Go check out some of his music, he sang “Got to get you off of my mind” and another song which was featured on the movie Dirty Dancing, “Cry to Me”. Rolling Stone named him number 89 on the list of greatest singers of all time.
