One of the most famous and most conspiracy provoking celebrity deaths of all time, the death of Marilyn Monroe shocked the world at the time and is hard to describe the impact her death caused. For one, she was the most famous and considered most beautiful women in the world at the time. One has to remember that there were not as many celebrities in the world at the time. Now we have thousands of celebrities with thousands of movies coming out each year, hundreds of tv channels with dozens of shows each, not to mention the rise of the supermodel and fashion industry.

Back then there was only a fraction of famous people we have now and much of the attention was focused on Marilyn. That is why it was such a shock when on August 5, 1962, LAPD police sergeant Clemmons got a phone call at 4:25am from Monroe’s psychiatrist, informing him that Monroe was dead at her home residence in Los Angeles, California. She was only 36 years old.

Her autopsy report showed that her blood contained eight milligram per cent of Chloral hydrate and 4.5 milligram percent of Nembutal. The Los Angeles County Coroners office recorded the official cause of her death to be acute barbiturate poisoning. And that this resulted in what was a probable suicide.

At the time there were many theories that went around about the happenstances of her death and the subsequent timeline of events after she was found dead. She was connected with some very famous people including her affair with President Kennedy which hinted at some evil doings suggesting CIA or Mafia complicity. Did Kennedy have her killed to cover up the affair? Many people believe so, I doubt it but it was the fodder for much juicy speculation at the time. Reportedly the last person Monroe called was the President.

There are so many different reports and stories about the circumstances around her death, some witnesses report seeing Bobby Kennedy in the neighborhood at the time of her death. There are other stories that she spent the weekend with Frank Sinatra and a well known mobster Sam Giancana the weekend she died, whom she was reported to be having a relationship with. This also adds another layer of complexity because she was also speculated to have had an affair with Bobby Kennedy after her relationship with JFK. Bobby Kennedy was at the time Attorney General of the United States and had sworn publicly to go after the mafia which included Sam Giancana. In return, mafia members swore to destroy Bobby Kennedy. That both were rumoured ot be involved with Monroe is pretty insane.

Most of the speculation does end up pointing back to the Kennedy’s though and involve the FBI in her death.

On August 8, 1962, Monroe was interred in the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in LA. An interesting sidenote is that the crypt space right next to Monroe’s was bought and reserved by Hugh Hefner. Not sure if Hugh has done this on purpose to be laid to rest next to possibly the most famous starlet ever. Joe DiMaggio, another one of Marilyn’s lovers and in case you didn’t know is one of the famous baseball players in the history of the sport, handled the funeral affairs.
