Micheal Jackson’s doctor Conrad Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaugter, a sentence that could lead up to 4 years in prison and will likely lead to the loss of his medical license in California. The main point of the case centered around his administration of the drug anesthetic propofol, which Jackson used to help him sleep and which Murray is found to be criminally negligent in giving to Jackson. Basically, Murray was careless and should have known better than to have been giving the doses that Jackson was receiving. Murray contended that Jackson gave himself the fatal dose that killed him and that Murray was not responsible.

But given the charge of involuntary manslaugter, the jury was instructed to find Murray guilty if the jury considered the doctor to be reckless in his care, and even if Jackson took the drugs himself, Murray could still be considered guilty if such a action was foreseeable. So in this case I would have to agree with the decision, I think it is fairly obvious that someone like Jackson, a megastar who was in Murray’s own words, “a desperate man” would have no problem upping the dosage and thereby endangering his own life. But at the same time, I think most of us are capable of such similiar actions, I mean who hasn’t upped or lowered the dosage of medication we’ve recieved at some point? Maybe taken 3 aspirin instead of 2? And since this is relatively common, are thousands of doctors at risk of also being found criminally negligent?

Admittedly this is a special case, the drug propofol is a very serious drug and can easily kill someone who takes too much, and the doctor should have been more careful or maybe not have allowed it at all. But Jackson was already on this drug, since he was seeing multiple doctors and had already gotten a prescription. Murray claimed that he was mislead by Jackson and that Jackson was deceptive about his medical history. This I have no problem believing. To me this is very borderline case, Murray maybe should have known better but this is so borderline I can’t agree with the legions of fans and Jackson’s family in their absolute condemnation of Murray.

The fact the fans outside were cheering and the family was weeping for joy is a joke and only shows how mislead, desperately seeking a scapegoat and just plain stupid, some of his fans are. What happened to this doctor would have happened to 9 out of 10 doctors that was put in a similar position and he is just as much a victim of circumstances.

Oh yeah and another stupid thing, the judge denied bail to the doctor on the grounds that this was a homicide and the public would be in danger if he was released to the public while he awaits his sentence. Huh? What was Conrad going to do? Start approaching people on the street and overprescribing meds? What Conrad is really guilty of is being weak-willed, giving in to the wishes of his client and trying to please his client and acting against his better judgement. It’s not as if he is battling homicidal impulses or can’t control his desire to rape and assault people. What is wrong with this judge?
