He with the million ways to spell his name was killed on October 20, 2011 by rebel forces of his own country Libya. While I’m not sure that he qualifies as a celebrity, if there ever was a celebrity dictator for the majority of our lifetimes, he pretty much foots the bill.

He first came to the attention of most Americans in the early 90′s when US forces attacked Libya with a bombing raid. Since then his wild behavior and aggressive stance toward the west has attracted attention and labeled him as a bit of a wildcard on the world stage of politics.

Perhaps most notable to fans of pop culture, is the fact that he had a armed cadre of female bodyguards who are also reported to be quite attractive. They were called his “amazonian cadre” and they were reported to be forced into a life of celibacy. It is also rumoured that they were subject to sexual assault by Gaddafi and members of the Gaddafi family, a real bunch of winners these guys are.

Adding to his bizarre reputation, when Gaddafi was visiting Europe and New York he stayed in a Beduoin tent, following his native traditions. While I can’t really blame him for this, it is a bit odd to insist on such things in the 21st Century.

When he was captured, there were multiple mobile phones that recorded him being mistreated by his captors. There were images and videos of him being beaten and mishandled as he is being transported on the back of a truck. It is also reported that he was sodomized by an object during his capture. One can never condone such activity to anyone, but if it did have to happen to someone, there is probably not a better candidate for such treatment as he was directly responsible for the torture and death of thousands of people during his regime. Although the part about being sodomized is a bit shocking.

It’s hard to say Gaddafi was executed as some have reported, he was basically murdered by those who captured him. Executed implies some sort of judge and jury passing judgement and then executing a sentence. This was basically akin to an unruly mob shooting somebody in the head. His family condomnmed the manner of his death and called for an investigation and there was some noise of an investigation being done by European officials. I will have to follow up to see if anything actually was done. I highly doubt anything will come of it as most of the first world hated this man’s guts.
